The Janome 8002D Serger
If you are in the market for a new serger, Janome sergers should definitely be on your list for machines to consider. The Janome 8002D is one such machine that packs many serging features into its small, compact frame.
The Janome 8002D features a sturdy design that also allows for precise stitching so you can be sure to get a beautiful result from its 3 or 4 thread operation.
This great machine also offers a rolled hem feature that is built into the machine; you don’t even need to change your needle plate. It gives your projects a professional finish. All you need to do is slide your plate over into the R position for a rolled hem – and that’s it.
The Janome 8002D makes it easy to thread your machine with its easy-to-read threading chart that also comes color-coded for your convenience and ease. You don’t need to worry about noise either – this machine is almost whisper-quiet for a serger, even when sewing up to 1300 spm.
Cutting is made easier with an adjustable cutting width of 3.1 mm up to 7.3 mm and a retractable upper knife. You are also offered a dial for left/right needle thread tension and a dial for upper/lower thread tension.
For your convenience, the presser feet snap on and you are provided with a thread guide as well as a thread cutter.
Regularly included accessories with the Janome 8002D consist of a standard serger foot, an instructional video, an instruction book, a pack of serger needles, screwdrivers in both large and small sizes, tweezers, and foot control as well as the power cord.

Excellent little machine!
My husband purchased this for me for the holidays this last year. I sew, a lot, and he knew this would save me some time (plus it was on my amazon wish list). I couldn't be happier with this machine. Once out of the box, I began using it right away (I should probably mention here that I had never, ever, touched a serger before then). Threading it was...an adventure! The included DVD and printed instructions are very handy. Highly recommended machine! Update 5/14/2013 *A tip from a friend helped me a lot to get through the re-threading time sucker. Snip your existing threads at the top of the thread holder, near to the thread spool so there is plenty of 'tail' on the thread. Then take off snipped thread spools, drop in the new spools of thread, and tie them (in a knot) to the existing thread that is already threaded in the machine. Run the machine for a few seconds to get the new thread passed through, and viola! You've just saved a half an hour of time!

The machine is really easy to use and the instructions are helpful. The color coding for threading is perfect and makes this machine really user friendly.

I've been sewing over 50 years and this is my first Serger. Boy!!! Do I have a lot to learn!! So excited to get started! This machine is very well made and heavy. I'm sure I'll get many years of use with this highly recommended machine.

Serger
As a beginner, I can't really give this a quality rating it probably deserves. The package was delivered on time and undamaged though threading the loopers was very very intimidating the first couple of times even with the video. But I am more confident in that respect now. The only material I had major trouble running through the serger thus far has been cotton t-shirts, that I was trying to take in. The serger "ate" the t-shirt, and I had an awful time clearing the machine. Not sure why? Operator error or incompatible material, who knows, but I certainly won't be trying that again.

smooth and easy threading
this is my first serger bought after reading many reviews. I was not disappointed. it came pre-threaded which was so helpful, esp for a beginner like me. the thing that impressed me is the post support. I had some issues with the serger which I contacted the manufacturer even though I purchased the machine here and shipped to another region. They escalated the issue to the local support. That is so nice of them even though I fixed it myself after that. Overall, good machine, light and compact, smooth operating. Love it!

A super little serger.
This really is a great little serger. It seems very sturdy and is quiet. I am taking an online course on serging and am attempted to learn all that can be done with it.
