I've had it 4 weeks and it's done everything I wanted. I'm still learning all the functions and there's a lot. Just be sure to read the book and watch youtube tutuorials. And be careful when you buy and download a design.

    ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL.

It all began with a husband's thought that I might surprise my wife with an embroidery machine. The SE400 by Brother looked downright cheap at $309.00 and a reasonable risk even if she didn't enjoy the whole idea and simply put it away someplace. I clicked my mouse on it, ordering one as a Christmas present. After all, what could go wrong? Well the machine didn't arrive in time for Christmas; It didn't arrive a week later... The young woman in the Phillipines to whom I spoke told me that it had been "lost" in shipment via UPS. UPS, on the other hand, was equally certain that they had never received the shipment from Amazon. What to do? Well nothing, of course, but wait. A week later UPS rang our front doorbell and drove off after 'thumping' something noisily onto the snow covered entryway. Naturally I expected it to be the much awaited embroidery machine -- but -- when I went to the door I found that I was only partially right for there stood two large identical cartons with two SE400's in them. A windfall! My wife fell in love with one of the SE400's immediately and in no time at all was churning out beautiful embroideries. Then, with a subtle logic which sort of 'snuck up' on me, she formulated the following: "If," she said,"we returned one machine for a credit of $309.00, it would only require an additional $200.00 or so to purchase a larger Brother PE770." I had to agree; the arithmetic seemed to be absolutely correct, no doubt about it... So now my wife has two embroidery machines; one an SE400, and the other a PE770. She is running them almost constantly when she is not sitting by her laptop, ordering all sorts of accessoties for them. The two machines are working admirably well in part, at least, due to the fact that she is a newly retired computer engineer who first learned her sewing skills with 4H more than fifty years ago. But much credit has to be given to the machines themselves. I mention this because I have seen some very critical reviews describing the difficulties which some have found while attempting to climb the 'learning curve' associated with these machines. Those reviews worried me at first but I am worried no longer and I don't think that others should be either. I would guess that, in most cases, it's not the machine's fault; just a little cockpit error.
