The magic of the Smart Iron comes from Oliso’s patented iTouch technology that allows the iron to lift and lower when activated by the user’s touch. The iTouch sensors are located in the handle of the iron; when the handle is released, the iron is lifted by Scorchguards 3/4" off of the surface being ironed, giving an impression that the iron is hovering about the board. This elevation prevents the soleplate from scorching the fabric.
Because the iron is elevated a safe distance from the surface, there is no need to lift the iron and set it upright. As a result, the corresponding wrist motion is eliminated from ironing, streamlining the entire process as a whole. Resting horizontally also provides a broader base for balance. The iron will remain stable even if the board is tilted at a twenty degree incline.
