    Great for a beginner!

Posted by Vienna on 4th Dec 2017

First off, let me just say that I am a beginner to sewing machines. I have never taken a class or had anyone tell me how to use this machine. I got this machine to sew as a hobby. So excuse me if my thoughts are a bit shattered! Additionally, I did do extensive research before getting this machine. The other reviews seem to say this machine is fantastic also! It comes with a bunch of bobbins, 4 needles, a zipper foot, and more! I have to say the zipper foot is extremely useful. The default stitches is more than enough for a beginner. I do suggest you get some good quality thread because I had to re-thread the machine countless times due to poor quality thread. If you read the instruction book, you should know all you need to to start making some stuff. I already made a messenger bag that I have been using everyday for school, some wallets, a scarf and more. In fact, an hour after I got it, I had made a hair bow already. It was really easy to teach myself how to sew despite no previous experience. This machine is heaven to me because it managed to sew through 6 layers of home deco fabrics! It didn't even make any sounds like it was in pain. I have yet to try it on several layers of denim but I am pretty sure it will no have trouble doing so. Be careful of sewing TOO much layers though. I tried to sew so much layers that it reached the foot and it couldn't even more and the needle snapped! ALSO. If you have any trouble with the thread catching or breaking or whatever, I found that the solution to these kinds of problem is just patience and removing the bobbin case and then removing parts behind it. It is extremely easy assembling it back together. If you don't know how, just look at your instruction booklet. It has a diagram telling you how to assemble the pieces back together. Whenever my thread catches and get stuck, I just removed the bobbin area's pieces and it unstuck itself. I hope that makes sense because discovering that was my life saver when I thought I broke my sewing machine. As for the backward stitches, I find it really accessible and easy to use because the lever is in the front and so large. You can also take out the extension table. That is how you can sew sleeves or remove the bobbin case. In the extension, you have two compartments where you can store any thread, bobbins, seam ripper, etc. The bobbin winder is also super easy to use, as well as the foot pedal you use to sew. You can go REALLY slow if you are not as experienced (like me) or go REALLY fast if you start to get the hang of it. I'm really glad I got a Janome and I hope it doesn't break in the near future since it's so cheap! I will update this review is anything bad happens! In the meantime, I'm pretty sure most if not all the problems I am having (such as the thread getting stuck) are from user errors. I still have no idea when to adjust the tension! In all, it's superb for first timers! I hope this is useful for beginners that have no previous experience in sewing.

    Very Good Machine

Posted by David A. Fulkerson on 4th Dec 2017

I bought this Sewing Machine for my Wife, her older one was pretty well shot. Even though She has not used it a lot, it seems exactly what we had read about it before we purchased it. ( Simple & Reliable ) !!

    They both love the machine

    Posted by Hopeful1 on 27th Nov 2017

My grand daughter is a beginning sewer and being taught by her mom who is quite accomplished. They both love the machine. Basic enough for a beginner, but sturdy enough for an expert. They pronounced it a great gift from Grandma so I was happy too.

    Janome 2212 Sewing Machine

    Posted by Lil_Kitten7 on 23rd Nov 2017

Love this sewing machine. Read a lot of Reviews for different brands, this one sounded the best. My Mom used Singer Sewing Machines for years and they were a very good brand back then and so were Brothers Sewing Machines. But for awhile now neither of them seem to be very good :( So I done some reading up on Janome and known some who have used them and say they are very dependable. So figured I would take a chance,so glad I did. It's very easy to use, sew's really smoothly and haven't had a problem yet. Have used it only 8 different times, but on all types of material and thicknesses. Works wonderfully !

    A solid machine

I don't have a lot of experience with other sewing machines. I'm learning to sew and bought this machine about 9 months ago. I've used it to make a few things––mostly straight-line sewing, but including a couple of invisible zippers, a fair amount of zig-zag to bind edges. And I've practiced all the stitches including the buttonhole, and they've all worked well. I can't be sure if it's me or if it's the machine, but it seems to me that I have to keep a very steady hand on the fabric when sewing or it'll veer off from the straight. However, I remember learning how to drive a car, and a bicycle, and so on, and maybe sewing on a machine has a similar learning curve. The machine will sew very slowly if I'm diligent about how I press the foot pedal, and it'll sew way faster than I want to sew. I've used a walking foot attachment and had a satisfactory experience. And I've sewn oilcloth and even a lot of 14 mil tarp material, and the machine has not baulked at all. It winds bobbins with no problems, and I have not broken a needle ever. Sometimes there's a thread jam on the underside of the fabric when doing beginning back stitches, and I don't know if that's my fault or the machine's––seems to be more of a problem on thin material, and is maybe avoidable by making sure to stop completely between forward and backward stitching. It's got a hi-lift presser foot option that's simple to use––just need to lift up on the presser foot lever, and that gives room to get really, really thick stuff under the foot.

I bought it for my daughter to learn stitching and she finds it easy to use and loves it. It does have other features like stretch and button hole maker which we have yet to try. She has been using it for almost a year with no issues. Overall a great machine. I will recommend it to all.

This is my wife's machine. She loves it. Sews like crazy. Does multiple stitch patterns and is easy to use. I can't say much more than that other than she is very pleased with it.
