Sometimes referred to as the Walking Foot, The Even Feed Foot is designed with a set of feed dogs which allow the fabric to reed without shifting and eliminates the problem of the under layer of fabric coming up short. The Even Feed Foot is also great for topstitching. It eliminates seam allowance bulk around collars and reveres.

A fiddle, but worth it
Love it, using it for all my sewing. Only draw-back is that it's a fiddle to put on the machine - which is why I use if for all my sewing!!

I love the walking foot and use it for machine quilting ...
I hoped this would work on my Elna 7200 since Janome machines are almost the same as Elna. And it does! I love the walking foot and use it for machine quilting and attaching binding on my quilts.
