when using you find things like adjustable needles etc

Posted by MJ on 16th May 2018

This machine is okay, when using you find things like adjustable needles etc. that you won't think of until using, would not buy another one. It does sew well except the bobbin jams easy...just try another bobbin in there - i use a fatter one, seems to be okay with that.

    Liked the metal casing

Liked the metal casing, felt solid, but was loud and so SLOW. Definitely not the advertised stitches per minute. Maybe it was just mine? Returned it.

Excellent Basic heavy duty sewing machine

Posted by Jill E on 16th May 2018

This is the same machine I have used for 30 years with very little changes from my old one. I have already sewn several quilts and patched many pairs of blue jeans along with making many Christmas gifts with it. I does all the stitches that I need and will sew through heavier fabric. If you are looking for a very good basic sewing machine that will last 30 years, this is the one to purchase! I am very happy with this sewing machine.

    Love the machine!

Posted by Vickie on 15th May 2018

It is soooo quiet! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I wish it had an automatic buttonhole maker. The foot that comes with the 4 step is less helpful than my old Kenmore 4 step. You really have to mark your buttonhole well, with lines extending to the sides of the the start and stop points. Other than that, I started using the machine as soon as it was delivered because I was so frustrated with my old Kenmore, and I love it!!!! I am a professional seamstress and it allows me to work quickly and quietly!

I'm not a heavy duty user.....

Posted by Customer on 15th May 2018

I've only used this machine for a couple of weeks, but so far, I'm thrilled. The instruction book is very easy to understand and the machine features are simple. I wanted a new machine for making felted wool bags and so far, this one sews over a double thickness of felted wool very easily. In the last two weeks, I've also made curtains and doll clothes. The machine feels substantial - heavy enough to stay put while sewing. Only two features were a surprise. The power pedal is made of very light plastic and will easily slide out of place, so I have to keep finding it with my foot. The machine is also louder than I expected. Over-all, except for the light weight power pedal, I am very pleased. I would recommend this machine for someone new to sewing. Time will tell if it will hold up for heavy use. More later.

    Work Horse!

Posted by Berta on 15th May 2018

The machine arrived on time at my home about mid-day and I have not stopped playing with it since it arrived. Yes, now I do see why I found comment reviews such as "work horse!" I do believe this is going to be a friend of mine for years. As I have never owned a Janome I spent some time reading the directions carefully for threading and inserting the bobbin. Like that it has a little drawer for the seam ripper, bobbins, etc. I thought I had read that bernina bobbins fit and this was a selling point for me so a bit disappointed today when I found my bernina 180 bobbins do not fit. Would have preferred to see metal over plastic bobbins and I do not like that the pressure foot regulator knob is plastic. However, the machine seems to work like a charm and I think I am going to like working with this machine. I purchased because I am so hard on my computerized, embroidery bernina machine. I will plan to now use that machine just for embroidery and the Janome for everyday sewing with my serger. I would strongly recommend this machine for the beginner seamstress and I would encourage parents to purchase for those children looking to learn to sed.

I bought this machine to sew thicker items such as ...

Posted by Sharisse Douthett on 15th May 2018

I bought this machine to sew thicker items such as bags and baby carriers. I should have done mroe research adn gone with something more industrial, but this machine does get the job done with minor fussing. I do wish the presser fott was higher and all that, but I'll survive! It runs very smoothly and is quieter than my old machine.

Very nice machine. Better than I expected for the price

Posted by Dan Balaguy on 15th May 2018

Very nice machine. Better than I expected for the price. I replaced my solid metal Kenmore machine that I had bought in 1983. Same metal inside. It performs excellently and is easy to use. Love the self threader since I am 58 years old. I can still thread a needle but not as easily. It's nice not have to.

    Hard worker

Posted by Me on 15th May 2018

I needed a reliable and tough sewing machine that can sew through several layers of upholstery materials without tiring and the Janome HD 1000 does deliver. It's quiet, heavy, steady but not a speed demon. Lovely to work with. Goes through 4 layers of upholstery like it's butter. I do not need fancy stitching, so 14 stitches are plenty. Love the heft of this machine, appears to be mostly metal, which also means it won't move around. I have not regretted my purchase and recommend this machine for anyone with a utilitarian approach to sewing.
