LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this machine
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this machine. I've been using fancy brother machines for the last 4 years and I wish I'd switched sooner. It's sturdy and produces great stitches. Also faster than the old machines!

Awesome front loading bobbin machine.
To me, this is the best mechanical machine out there for home use. It's affordable, and has just enough features that make it my go-to machine for sewing heavy material or when I need a really nice straight stitch. It's been my experience that front loading bobbin machines give the best straight stitch. I really like this machine and it comes with a hard case for easy storage.

Putting it through its paces so far so good. However
Putting it through its paces so far so good. However, out of the box the tension was way off. After adjusting the upper and lower tension it works perfectly! A real old school machine made from metal. Reminds me of my first sewing machine which was a Singer 237.

I finally found this great machine. I've been sewing for 40 years
After buying 4 sewing machines in 6 months that claimed to be heavy duty. I finally found this great machine. I've been sewing for 40 years. Patching lots of jeans, my old faithful sewing machine finally quit, so I was forced to buy another. This machine threads backwards to what I was used to. But after reading instructions....no problems...automatic threader worked great. Sewed over a blue-jean pocket with ease. I went through a Brother Runway, it was supposed to have automatic threader but I spent more than 15 minutes trying to get it to thread. then I bought a Singer, broke needle first time I tried sewing over blue-jean seam. This machine is well built no plastic parts, thread holders stand straight up, not like the new machines with thread holders laying sideways. My only issue is I have my machine on a writing desk, and the foot pedal cord isn't very long, so I had to push the machine towards the back of the desk, but this is the ONLY thing I would change....Longer cord on foot pedal. I am finally happy with another sewing machine again!

This machine was a good choice for me
I've used this machine for three years. It's served me well from quilting to decor to apparel. This machine was a good choice for me. I wanted to be able to sew heavy duty fabrics as well as lightweight fabrics without a problem. I keep discovering new features that I enjoy all the time. I've sewn on it for 100+ hours and have had no major problems. No frills, just quality.

Great machine!
I had my old machine for 30 years and was looking for something as reliable and sturdy as I had. I did a lot of research and reading of reviews (the Amazon reviews were very helpful!) I am pleased to say that I am thrilled with the Janome HD1000. The stitching is even and tight and the bobbin winding goes smoothly. I haven't tried all the stitches yet but have found some that are very helpful with the heavy knits and upholstry fabric that I work with. This is a sturdy machine that seems like it will tackle all I will use it for. It came with a hard case (thought it was coming with a soft one) so that was very nice. I like that it is made of metal and not all plastic. The bobbins are really little fat things and hold a LOT of thread - very nice! I am very happy and would recommend this machine for anyone who needs a basic, sturdy machine with some very helpful stitches. It is not an embroidery machine but that is not what I wanted. I also do quilting (piecing) and the foot piece is very easy to control.

Fantastic
What a work horse. This is my first Janome purchase. I was looking for a dependable new old fashioned sewing machine. Meaning no computer involvement and a machine that would handle tougher projects. I am happy, it is exactly what I wanted. It does have a painted metal body. It did not move while I made a long sleeve jumpsuit into now a short sleeve jumpsuit and sewed on patches. A heavy duty machine for sure and I like the front loading old style bobbin set up, no problem after reading instructions I can successfully dial all the stitches, the buttons holes are a work in progress since it is a 4 step button hole set up. I am not complaining,I have not practiced enough and it is a cool feature for extra large buttons that do not fit the button feet on auto style settings on other machines. I do use my computer style sewing machine for the fancy stiches and other features, this is a great sewing machine and ended up purchasing another model Janome because I am so happy with this Janome purchase.

Awesome machine!
What a great sewing machine! I wanted something similar to my Kennmore that died, and this is perfect! It is a lot quieter than my Kennmore, and I haven't had any problems threading it, or any problems with the bobbin casing or anything. It does leak some oil at first so be sure to not let your fabrics rub around the area above the needle.

Easy to use workhorse.
I purchased the machine to use for sewing canvas and Sunbrella fabrics for a variety of sailboat projects. I was concerned that it would not have the power to sew through multiple layers of treated canvas, but it is doing just fine. I never used a sewing machine before so the HD1000 has been tested by tough fabrics and by a mistake prone raw beginner. I have had the machine since May 2013, and although I can't compare it to others, I am very satisfied with the build quality, the stitch quality, and the ease of use. The guide it came with was all I needed to get started. It provides clear instructions on how to use it, maintain it, oil it, and also provides information on each of the 14 or so different stitches. I have not experienced any machine glitches, just operator glitches. I don't think you can beat it for heavy duty sewing for the price. I highly recommend it.
