    sewing

Haven't had time for too much sewing yet, but find the machine sews smoothly and neatly. The 15 stitches are useful ones and the bobbin winds easily. Still getting used to the threading procedure and need to check the book for getting the different stitches, but I'm learning!! The needle threader is a kick to use when I remember it, altho I mostly still thread by hand.

    Well-made machine

My husband surprised me with this new machine for Christmas. I have a very old singer workhorse that is getting tired but I was afraid I couldn't replace the quality. I was wrong. This machine is built the way they used to build things but has the benefit of some great new technology: fancy stitches at the twist of the dial, feed dog adjustment & SELF-THREADING NEEDLE which is wonderful for my aging eyes.

    just what I needed

I was working with an old Kenmore sewing machine from the 80s that my aunt gave me. I taught myself to sew and I like to make curtains, clothing, quilts, etc. Sometimes I use heavy materials like courdoroy. I was overwhelmed by the choices of sewing machines in this price range. Most of them seem to be electronic centered, which I didn't want to have to learn to sew all over again, plus the reviews say that many of the Brother machines are bad with heavy fabrics. I was relieved when I found this model - it looks very much like my old machine, with no electronics or other frivolous things to add confusion or hassle. I've been working with this machine for almost 6 months and I'm very happy with it. I took the advice of other reviews and have only used metal bobbins. My only complaint is that the cord for the foot pedal is a bit short (but I do my sewing on the kitchen table). All in all a great machine if you don't want any of the fancy electronics.

    Found my sewl-mate.

I think I found "the one." This machine understands me like no other machine has ever understood. It doesn't mess with my mind or play games. It doesn't try to seduce me with false promises of fancy stitches. It is hardworking and honest. I believe our union will last forever. Since receiving this machine I have churned out numerous projects and no matter how difficult (layers of fleece, fabric, batting or pillow stuffing for a cat beds, denim purses, thick canvas totes, etc.), it doesn't get its threads in a bunch. It is surprisingly easy to thread. It was simple to set up straight out of the box. It is more powerful than any of the machines I have used in sewing classes and sewing studios.

Happy, couple of very minor gotchas

I use this for everything from light fabrics through sewing webbing to blue jeans material, and as long as I use enough needle (think big), it does great. Even stitches, easy to get the tension right. I don't really like the "easy threading" thread take-up, because the thread can slip out of it if the needle isn't positioned just right when I pause, and then I end up with a mess. Using a big enough needle can help, but I'd be more than willing to actually have to pass the thread through the hole (rather than sliding through a slot) to avoid that. I've had it about 5 years, and have really been very favorably impressed.

    A great machine

This is a great machine for someone who doesn't want "fancy." No electronics, but at this price, that's to be expected. I felt at home the minute I sat down to it, which was far from the case with the Singer it replaced. I've done several types of work that the Singer just balked at, and haven't had a bobbin thread snarl or a needle break in the 6 weeks I've had it -- again, far from the case with the previous machine. For example the Janome HD1000 sewed through 10 layers of fabric, iron-on interfacing, and batting like it was two layers of cloth. It threads easily and logically, and has everything a quilter needs. I love the needle threader. It's an all-round good machine. This was a Mother' Day gift from my daughter, and I have probably thanked her a dozen times in the 6 weeks since then. I will continue to do so.

    It is what it is.

Does this machine rate up there with my Pfaff 7550?-NO I wouldn't expect it to. But it does do what I want and that is sew fast and run through heavy duty fabrics as though it's sewing through light weight cotton. I watched it being demo'd on You tube and when they sewed through the yard stick, I was sold. I've been machine sewing for 45 years and 40 of those professionally. I own at least 14 sewing machines from commerical to quilters to sergers. It is a good machine for any sewer. I can grab it and go as I did this weekend and made Ladybug costumes from felt, rigiline and coat hangers - this was the first time I used it. I am very pleased with its performance. My Pfaff likes finer sewing and is getting older and pickier. For the $300.00 that I spent on this from Amazon--it has already paid for itself and we will have many years together. It's a very simple machine for simple sewing, and if you're a pro, it won't let you down.

    Great machine!

Posted by Janet Newcomer on 26th Jun 2018

I purchased my Janome HD 1000 from MrvacandMrssew. It was a "scratch and dent" model. It shipped out and was received within 4 days(Sunday included). It is in perfect condition and came with more extras than anticipated. Set up was easy, and the directions easy to navigate. I purchased it to replace a broken 40 yr old Singer Stylist after doing hours of research to determine what machine best suited my needs, pocketbook, and was of good quality. I have had the machine for 24 hrs and am delighted with it so far. I quickly got used to the push-in type bobbin. Bobbins wind very smoothly. Threading was a snap with the needle threader.I am getting guickly spoiled by that, the free arm, and the thread cutter, none of which my old machine had. So far I have hemmed a pair of denim jeans ( they are what broke my old machine), mended a tote bag and have made 2 pet beds with fake sheepskin. I definitely recommend this machine for those who are looking for something sturdier than the lightweight, all plastic types. The 2 minor complaints I have, is that I wish the light were stronger ( could be my aging eyes) and that the power cords to the pedal and outlet be longer. All in all I'm very happy with it!
