Great partner for my sewing machine!
I'm new to sergering and I checked this machine out at a local dealer before purchasing through Amazon (more affordable online.) I watched a ton of YouTube videos about threading this gem while I waited for it to arrive. I was able to thread my machine in 10 minutes using the manual provided to guide me. I left my tensions at 4 and it produced a perfect seam with 2 and 6 layers of 100% woven cotton. I'm assuming it will be great on knits and heavy fabric. The machine was impressively quieter than other machines I demoed at the local sewing dealers and this was important since I live in an apartment. I would definitely say this machine is worth the purchase but I will update my review a few months from now to give a better perspective oh how this machine functions and worka through hours of projects. Happy serging!

First Time Serger User
There is a great review from a long-time serger user, however,I thought it might be helpful to give you the impressions from a first-time user. First off, I ordered the machine "used-like new" from the warehouse deals. It was $368 and it came in its original package; the only thing that was missing was the original thread. I was disappointed at first, because I was hoping to see how it was threaded right out of the factory. It still had the grey thread tangled in the loopers which made me hang my head even lower, thinking "looks like the previous owner had issues with the stitch, threading, or loopers". I bought the book Successful Serging: From Setup to Simple and Specialty Stitches in advance because I had read that the user manual is not all that user friendly. I was determined to brace the threading storm and get acquainted with the machine at once. The user manual is actually not bad at all. I managed to get the Juki threaded correctly on my first try-the key is to make sure the loopers just cross after the lower looper snaps back in place. I also made sure the tension dials were at 1 when I threaded it and when it purred to life the overlock it produced was impressive. The lower looper need a slight tweak, but that was it. The booklet has one downfall though: it does not speak about how to produce a flatlock seam; no biggie, I have the book and there are plenty of tutorials available online. I decided to change it to a 3-thread overlock and it was a breeze. Threading the second time around was even easier, and in retrospect I was so apprehensive of something that turned out to be quite easy. The knives cut through various material nicely, the machine purrs, it runs very smoothly, it does not move at all-overall my first impression is excellent. I am used to working with a bright LED light on my Brother sewing machine, something this Juki does not have. It is a regular old light source, bright, but different to LEDs. Also, something that I did not read in the description but this machine has is a thread cutter, right at the back of the presser foot. I will edit this review in a few weeks when I have used the serger more extensively. So far, my first impression as a first time user is a very good one! FYI, I am using it with regular Maxi Lock thread and Maxi Lock Stretch thread.

Don't hesitate, buy it!!!!
So I debated on getting a Brother or a Juki. I AM SO GLAD I GOT THE JUKI!!! This machine is awesome. I unboxed it and watched a video on threading it twice, then went for it. So far I've played with a few types of fabric. I played with cotton, jersey, and denim and this machine had me smiling the whole way through. This is my 1st serger and its a very sturdy machine. I watched videos on multiple machines before I made my decision. Glad I held out and saved for this one. This machine is great!!!!

Love it! Easy to use!
I had HIGH expectations of Juki and this serger lived up to those expectations! I used to dread serging, but the Juki MO654DE has made my life so much simpler! It handles all kinds of fabrics really well and this serger has a large "sweet spot." What I mean is that, I can leave it on a certain setting and the tension still comes out great on a variety of fabrics ranging in fabric content and weight. It runs quickly and threading is so simple! My only complaint is that the pictures on the tension dials are a little confusing and I hadn't found them that helpful. Also, the knife gets in the way of threading the loopers. This was my first serger and I highly recommend it to people who are looking for their first one as well! I love it so much and I refuse to use any serger that doesn't run as well as my Juki!

starsModel should be named Old Faithful
I bought this machine as a back up for a workhorse Juki serger that I purchased nearly 20 years ago. Initially I purchased a Singer 5 thread serger for this purpose because I was lured by its cover stitch capability, but after testing out the Singer, I felt that the quality just wasn't there. While my older Juki serger was made in Japan, and the new Juki serger in China, I still feel like the manufacturing standards are quite high. Out of the box, the new Juki performs beautifully. I don't plan on straying again and will continue to be loyal to Juki.

Fabulous Machine!
Do a little homework before firing it up, so you know a few of the ins and outs of serging. I made a pair of leggings in under a half hour, first rattle out of the box. The seams were perfect. It's so fast! I've owned a serger before, but this one is much easier to set up and operate. So glad I went for it.

love love love this machine
love love love this machine!!! I had a lower end serger before this one that just couldn't keep up with me. the juki has been amazing so far! I have already done a lot of projects with it and it has never ceased to amaze me! it is so much quieter than my old machine and it's very sturdy. it doesn't wobble at all while I'm sewing with it. I have only great things to say about this machine!!!

I had one of this model for 8 years and just purchased my second one. This is a great machine for small business & high volume home use. holds up to the workload, great speed & smooth sewing, comes threaded which helps for the first time owner in learning how to thread. very dourable. Great price for being such a workhorse. planning on buying another one soon! this is an awesome machine.

this thing is amazing. It's no harder to thread than any standard ...
Oh my gosh, this thing is amazing. It's no harder to thread than any standard server, and it's a freaking work horse of a machine. So powerful. So easy to swap out needles. So much quieter than I expected it to be, and it doesn't shake like crazy either. I love it. I would purchase it again in a heartbeat.
