The Bernette 38 Sewing Machine

The most affordable top model in the bernette series of sewing machines with the widest range of functions

Considered the top model in the Bernette series, the Bernette 38 sewing machine offers an expansive range of components at a price point that any sewing enthusiast can afford! The computerized functions feature over 394 different stitches, and one of its most popular features, the stretch stitch for elastic fabrics such as T-shirts and jerseys.

The Bernette 38 also has eight different one-step buttonholes, three alphabets, and a memory function so you can store your patterns and return to your projects later. One standout feature of the Bernette 38 is its useful speed regulator, which allows you to make adjustments right on the display.

Additionally, the Bernette 38 sewing machine has a threader, an automatic and manual thread cutter, and a bright LED light that makes sewing that seam a “seamless” process.

Here are some of this high-quality sewing machine’s capabilities:

394 stitches (67 decorative stitches and 8 buttonholes)
Adjustable presser foot pressure
Automatic thread cutter
Storage function for stitch combinations
Three alphabets

Automatic limitation for double needles:

Making the switch from a single to a double needle can be a bit tricky. The Bernette 38 sewing machine features a “double needle button” so that you can quickly adapt your needle to the presser foot. This “double needle safety” function helps keep the needle from breaking off when the presser foot is engaged.

Adjusting the presser foot pressure to suit the material:

Lightweight fabrics are more delicate and can lead to unwanted damage to materials such as chiffon. The Bernette 38 features an adjustable presser foot that allows you to quickly change the pressure when working with thinner fabrics.

Automatic thread cutter and tie-off function:

Cutting and tying off a thread has never been easier with the Bernette 38 automatic tie-off feature. Preventing a seam from unraveling traditionally requires making a quick backward and forward stitch. This is no longer necessary with the Bernette 38.

Simply select the tie-off button, and the end of the seam will be tied off automatically. When you have finished your sewing project, press the button for the automatic thread cutter you can pull your completed work out from under the needle without having to reach for the scissors.

Extension table for large sewing projects included:

The Bernette 38 comes with an extension table for those larger sewing projects such as quilts, curtains, or tapestries. This extension table is also detachable and can easily be stored to save space.

Eight presser feet are included. You can choose the right presser foot for any application:

The Bernette 38 features eight presser feet and a stable presser foot shank to tackle any type of sewing project. Choose from options such as the zigzag stitch, the relevant satin foot for satin stitches, and the buttonhole foot for buttonholes! With the Bernette 38 presser feet, perfecting your stitches has never been easier.

This little machine does everything I asked for. The seller was wonderful to work with immediately contacting me when I told them some of the accessories were missing. I received the missing parts in 3 days. Would highly recommend this seller and machine for any sewing enthusiast. The machine sews like a larger machine but small enough to go anywhere with you. It also has a carrying case.

CAN HANDLE VERY THIN AND STRETCHY FABRIC

Posted by Annie B on 11th May 2018

It can handle very thin and stretchy fabric and it is why I bought it. As I don't know its durability, I saved 1 star for this.

A great machine for any sewer.

I bought this machine to use in our vacation home, and I spent less than 25% of what I spent on my fancy machine at home. It was a fantastic investment! The machine arrived quickly and well-packed, with a very nice array of presser feet and accessories. I am particularly impressed with the stitch quality and the solid presser feet, both of which have long differentiated Bernina machines. The threading is simple and familiar (love the needle threader, too), and the buttonholes have turned out perfectly. A solid machine!

    Very solid easy-to-use sewing machine

This is a backup for my very old sewing machine. It sews well; the stitches are all even and the tension is balanced, and it is quiet. I can regulate the speed, which helps when sewing around tight curves. Most important is that the foot is stable while I am sewing. I have tested out other machines and often the foot feels a bit wobbly while I am sewing. This stitching is straight and the machine feels sturdy. The manual is easy to understand, and the touchscreen is pretty intuitive. I had a very small learning curve.

AWESOME sewing machine!!!!! High end features at an affordable price

Posted by Seree Collie on 11th May 2018

I have been comparing machines for weeks now because I knew it was time for a new one. I have been a lover of Singer Machines and have owned at least four over my 20 years of sewing. I was open to a new brand because my last machine seemed not to be as reliable as previous ones. Of course I would of loved to own a Bernina Machine but was not ready to commit to spending those big dollars yet. In my search I found out that there are two brands that extend from Bernina: Eversewn and Bernette. I did my comparisons with the models and this machine won out because it has an automatic thread cutter button (so awesome). I have only had this for a month but have been using it constantly (busy season). It has so many high end features, I didn't know my previous machine was dated until I got this one. Changing stitch style and length is really easy, the computerization of this machine is straight forward and easy to catch on regardless if you read the instruction manual or not. By the way the manual is clear and direct, I browsed it prior to handling the machine. Another thing I think is worth noting is that the machine also shows which is the correct foot to attach after you choose your stitch style. I have a collection of feet (about 50 bought on amazon) that I invested in for my previous machines that was also low shank, and I have used at least half of them and they fit perfectly, the others I haven't gotten to as yet. This machine also comes with an extension table that comes in handy for larger garments. The machine seems to handle delicate and heavy weight materials all the same and runs super smoothly. I realize compared to other more known brands this didn't have many reviews which made the decision harder for me thus the reason why I felt the need to write this review. This is a great machine, you get beyond value for money with all the bells and whistles attached. If any one is on the fence about this, just do it, get it, its so worth it. As time passes If there are any changes in thoughts to the quality, functionality or longevity of this sewing machine I surely will make note in an updated review, but as of now I HIGHLY ENDORSE the Bernette 38. I simply enjoy using it and esthetically its a beautiful addition to my sewing room.

    Bernette 38

I love this machine. Easy to use, durable. The thread cutting is a nice bonus. Negatives are a little noisy and light is very dim and shadows in the working area because of where the bulb is positioned. Had to get an additional light.
