As a semi-novice with embroidery, this machine is perfect. It is very easy to use once you figure out how to load the material into the frame correctly. I had a little trouble figuring out what kind of backing to use, but that is a user issue, not a machine issue. Brother has made this very user friendly with clear buttons and easy thread loading with directions on the machine. I would recommend this machine for home use for anyone, novice or expert.

Great machine, too bad it needs really expensive software to do custom designs
The embroidery machine works wonderfully. I thought we would be able to upload our own pictures, but you have to buy $1000 software for a reasonably-featured software to do that. So, we are greatly disappointed in that. It does do the built-in designs very well. Maybe we'll be able to find someone who can digitize the designs for us, since it would be a lot of designs before we use up $1000 on paying someone else to do it. The thread tension is a little finicky, but after a couple tries, we've figured it out.

Great machine at a very reasonable price
I am completely new to machine embroidery and this has been a great machine at a great price. Convenience of the USB port is an absolute necessity. Screen display is black/white - would be nice to have larger and higher resolution when searching designs but that comes with the more expensive machines.

Really worth it's weight in gold! Has been a work horse for my artsy endeavor. The only downside is the preview screen, it belongs to the dinosaurs age of computers.
