Fantastic Starter Serger
It was my first serger and I agonized between this one and the Brother 1034d because cost was a big factor. Ultimately I chose the Juki after reading many reviews and trying it in a sewing shop. Since then, it seems every time I walk past a dry cleaners I see this Juki serger. I'm nosy and always look. It must be a sign of a good machine! I love this machine. It is simple, reliable and user friendly. I struggled at first but I practiced threading it over and over until I didn't feel intimidated anymore. That is key. Read the instructions, find videos and watch them. Now I find it easy to do. I mainly wanted a serger for sewing my daughter leotards and I can't believe how much more professional the finish is and it is actually easier than trying to use a sewing machine for seams. The fabric goes through it easily and sews beautifully. It is a quality basic serger and I think it's a great buy for beginners. Tip - at the sewing shop the man helping me said you never need to change the thread tension. Leave them on 4 (but move them all to 0 when threading machine then put them back up to 4 before sewing). So far that has worked for me. I may adjust the other options but not the thread tension.

Love this machine I bought it for the 2nd time, the first I left overseas. I had it for 8 year and never had any problems, I replaced the light bulb once in an 8 years. Highly recommended!

Works Very Well
I purchased this several years ago and learned to use it via the manual (I copied and laminated it and keep it by the machine) videos, a purchased book, an on-line class and am still learning little things about it. A class at a sewing store would probably be better yet--hands-on training. Sergers are different than regular sewing machines and you need Patience in working with them. Have used it periodically for cushion covers, pillows, clothing projects--just about everything. It got jammed during Christmas season last year and I messed with tensions a lot and couldn't get it to work properly so took it in for a tune up. Works great again. If you purchase, clean and oil it regularly and keep covered when not using. The tune-up ran about $160, which is standard for sergers. I've read that you should have them serviced about once a year because the technicians can clean and oil them internally and check them over. I had mine 3-4 years before taking it in and am willing to pay that every 3-4 years to keep it in good running condition as I don't intend to upgrade to anything pricier. It suits my home sewing needs perfectly.

Juki Serger MO-644D Awesomeness
Wonderful serger. I had been using my Brother 1034D model serger since 2003, as it was in my price range for sergers. A friend and master seamstress highly recommended the Juky 644D and when I came to SewVac Direct I saw a fabulous price! I had also purchased my wonderful Felting Machine (Janome) from SVD so I knew of their great business structure, customer service and fast shipping, so I ordered right away. My Juki arrived super quickly, and it runs like a dream (brand new). Very pleased with all it can do, I even threaded it correctly the FIRST TIME (if you have worked with sergers, you know about "threading" them, LOL!) So, I thank you Juki and Sew Vac Direct - a winning combination!
