This was my very first embroidery machine, and it was such a great starter. I have since moved on to a Brother Pr650, but still use this machine as a secondary. It is very easy to learn, especially for someone who has absolutely no sewing or embroidery experience. I recommend spending the extra money and buying the machine with the 5x7 area capability, as getting the 4x4 really limits what you can do. Since this is such a popular machine, there are LOTS of helpful articles and videos online to go to when you have an issue or want to learn more about it. I would recommend this machine to anyone getting into embroidery or anyone who loves to embroider but doesn't have the need for an expensive multineedle machine.

Best for the money.
I love this machine. It is the best of its kind for the price. The screen is not color nor does it really show you any detail but if you know what you're embroidering that isn't a big deal. The big 5 inch by 7 inch embroidery area is wonderful. It provides so many more options than the 4 by 4. It only comes with the 5 by 7 hoop but there are other sizes available for purchase. It's so easy to thread. At one time I wouldn't have cared much about the needle threader but now that I don't see as well as I used to, it's a great feature. It is extremely easy to use. You don't need any sewing experience. I think anyone should be able to set up and use this machine in a few minutes. One of the best features is the USB support. You can download all kinds of designs (The brother web site has many for free), copy them to a USB thumb drive and plug it into the machine. Not a professional machine but should be more than enough for the home embroiderer.

Love my PE770
The PE770 was my first embroidery machine. I purchased the PE 770 because of its capability to embroider beyond a 5x7 area. I have been using it for almost a year and have had no problems at all. The machine stitches files beautifully, and is easy to take apart and clean. I purchased the extra large repostionable hoop which allows you to embroider a 5"x12" area . I have embroidered leather boots, blankets, shirts, purses, bags, and clothing on my PE770. This is a great machine to buy if you are new to embroidery because other machines limit you to only a 4X4 area to embroider and you will quickly outgrow it.

Better than I expected
This was my very first embroidery machine. I researched and read online reviews for several weeks before purchasing the Brother PE770. This was PERFECT for my needs. It has a beginner skill lever, is very easy to operate and there are several you tube videos online that helped me learn the basic functions of the machine. The larger 5x7" embroidery field allows you to purchase some of the more "cute" embroidery and applique designs that are available and they can be easily transferred to the machine with the USB. Within no time I had my Etsy shop up and running and was making gifts for family members. If you are going to operate a business, you would probably want a larger machine with a faster sewing time, but for small projects, this is perfect. It sews beautifully. My only complaint is that the screen size is small and sometimes you can't see the designs that you have uploaded from your USB drive because the screen is black and white. But for the price -- its most certainly better than I expected. I would definitely recommend to friends.

A lot of bang for Your buck!!
With everything, there's a learning curve, but it wasn't bad and I jumped right in! I purchased the Embrilliance software to go along with it, keep my laptop and thumb drive right by it, plenty of money in my PayPal to get designs I like instantly, and life is good! Great support groups on Facebook as well!

Fun right out of the box
I'm addicted! Easy to setup and get going, just remember to get your stabilizer and quality threads so you don't have to wait, because once you make your first one, the creative juices get going and you want to embroider everything you can get your hands on. Quality embroidery thread is key! It doesn't like fancy, satiny nylon threads at all, gums it up and you get thread breakage. Don't test what you have on hand, get good thread from the start, and you'll be good from your very first one!

Using USB extremely easy to transfer designs to the machine.
I have been looking for a long time for a new embroidery machine. My Viking's 4x4 embroidery design area was too restrictive and using a dongle with obsolete software was no longer workable. This machine is outstanding. It is so easy to use and because the designs are transferred using a USB flash drive it works on my MAC and Windows computers. The 5 x 7 sewing area is exactly what I needed. I love this machine. Two features I especially love is the automatic needle threading feature and the low bobbin thread indicator (the machine stops and tells you that the bobbin thread is almost gone.) This machine is a lot of bang for your dollars.

Great machine for the price
I love this machine, but it does take a bit of patience to learn. I had a SE-400 already and this is similar, but different enough that there's still a learning curve. I did have to return my first machine which worked great for the first 3 days, then I could not adjust the bobbin thread to not show on the top of the project. Amazon made the return easy and I got a replacement right away. I've been using it for months now with very few problems. These machines always seem to need some fiddling with the bobbin tension though, but a replacement bobbin casing solved all the problems with my second machine which started messing up after a couple of months. I love having the bigger hoops and options for the larger projects although I find I rarely do larger than the 4x4 projects anyway. Still it is nice to have this machine embroidering while I use the other one to finish sewing up projects.

My struggles as a beginner
Not to sure what I thought. Have never In my life sewed a shirt, so I figured this piece of equipment can help do the impossible to possible. Let me add it would get a 5 if it was simple to use with maybe 2 back up needles, and stabilizers to try on your first go. Well this is a learning process for me and alot of my struggles using this machine has been all my error. Trust me read the manual it worth half a day of reading. Make sure you get Stabilizers, had no clue what that was for and now I do. The next thing is get needles and threads. I'm on week one and to be honest it's im improving fast. For most this may be no accomplishments, but I was happy to just get it to do 3 stitch straight, read a bit and got a horrible looking M. I received my stabilizers in the mail to day and got a good looking A. Just before my 1 needle broke. So I just order 20 of those. Hope I could save Beginners sometime.
